The Solitude Reel Company is located in the Skagit Valley just north of Seattle. The valley, bordered by ocean on one side and the North Cascade range on the other, is home to some of the most diverse fishing in the Northwest including both fresh and salt water. Tested on the famed steelhead rivers and intimate beaches of North Puget Sound, the Solitude Reel has proven itself worthy of the task. At Solitude Reels we take great pride in the design and precision machining of our product. All parts used in our fly fishing reels have been designed for increased functionality and strength. These parts, all twenty of them, are machined and assembled in our CNC (computer numeric control) machine shop. Solitude Reels is proud to say “Made in the USA”.
All materials used in our reel are corrosive resistant materials. The retrieve on all of our fly reels is easily reversible. The drag is a sealed disc drag system utilizing composite cork on Teflon in the SR2 and SR3 sizes and composite cork on aluminum in the SR4 and SR5 sizes. These materials provide both durability and ultra smoothness to the drag. A custom spring design allows for superior range to the drag giving the angler who targets large fish with light tippets a multitude of micro adjustments to drag tension to land their fish. We utilize a stainless one-directional Clutch Bearing which is pressed fit into a fully machined and anodized aluminum clutch housing that is then greased and sealed. This housing as well as the hub of the spool, rotor sleeve, and spindle is machined with tolerances of .0002” providing a solid and smooth rotation of the spool. The frames are reinforced to reduce flex or contortion and to increase strength and durability. The spools are designed to lock onto the frames easily and smoothly with a tight fit. Intense polishing is done to each part that receives anodize. The result is a beautiful finish that compliments the precision feel of our fly reels. You can expect a fly reel with an amazingly smooth drag and equally smooth feel and look.
All of our fly reels are anodized. Our gold and pewter reels are anodized Type II hard anodize and all black reels are anodized Type III hard anodize. Type III anodize provides a much harder finish than the Type II anodize, ensuring the highest quality finish for use in extreme environments, particularly marine.
Our mission is to create the highest quality fly fishing reel made in the USA with high precision machined parts – designed for functionality, strength, performance & durability while supporting conservancy and the fly fishing community.
