Made in USA Reels – Highest Quality Time magazine along with other mainstream press have been chatting lately about the made in USA comeback. We here at Solitude Reels have also been receiving solicitation as of late to advertise in made in USA websites and blogs. Hence, we thought it was a good time to reiterate our commitment to made in USA reels – fly fishing reels to be exact. Time magazine recent article How ‘Made in the USA’ is Making a Comeback quotes Climbing out of the recession, the U.S. has seen its manufacturing growth outpace that of other advanced nations, with some 500,000 jobs created in the past three years. It marks the first time in more than a decade that the number of factory jobs has gone up instead of down. At Solitude Reels we take great pride in the design and precision machining of our made in USA reels. All parts used in our fly reels have been designed for increased functionality and strength. These parts, all twenty of them, are machined and assembled in our CNC (computer numeric control) machine shop in Washington State. Solitude Reels is proud to say “Made in the USA”. All materials used in our reel are corrosive resistant materials. The retrieve on all of our fly reels is easily reversible. The drag is a sealed disc drag system utilizing composite cork on Teflon in the SR2 and SR3sizes and composite cork on aluminum in the SR4 and SR5 sizes. These materials provide both durability and ultra smoothness to the drag. A custom spring design allows for superior range to the drag giving the angler who targets large fish with light tippets a multitude of micro adjustments to drag tension to land their fish. We utilize a stainless one-directional Clutch Bearing which is pressed fit into a fully machined and anodized aluminum…
Fly Fishing Conservation Solitude Fly Reels captain, Jonathan Knapp, had the honor of attending the Coastal Conservation Association North Sound Chapter annual banquet and fundraiser. There was one proud winner of a Solitude Reel last weekend! Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) is a non-profit organization with 17 coastal state chapters spanning the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic seaboard, and the Pacific Northwest. CCA began in 1977 after drastic commercial over-fishing along the Texas coast decimated redfish and speckled trout populations. 14 concerned recreational anglers created the Gulf Coast Conservation Association to combat commercial over-fishing. The stewardship started with the “Save the Redfish” campaign, and by 1985, chapters had formed along the Gulf Coast. By the early ‘90s, the mid-Atlantic region and the New England had chapters. Washington and Oregon opened CCA chapters in 2007. CCA has participated productively in virtually every national fisheries debate since 1984. In the federal court system, CCA’s legal defense fund has been used to defend net bans; fight for the implementation of bycatch reduction devices; support pro-fisheries legislation; and battle arbitrary no-fishing zones. The CCA network is engaged in hundreds of local, state, and national projects that initiate scientific studies; fund marine-science scholarships; build artificial reefs; create finfish hatcheries; initiate hydrologic and contaminant studies; monitor freshwater inflows; support local marine law enforcement; and more. Through broad-based recreational angler support; a strong legal and legislative presence; decades of experience; and an unwavering vision for the future of U.S. and global marine resources, CCA battles for the sustainable health of our coastal fisheries and for recreational anglers’ interests. Solitude Reels is the proud sponsor of Austin Manthey – Colorado Youth Fly Fishing Team Member Over a year ago we received an email from Austin Manthey inquiring about sponsorship….. Austin: My name is Austin Manthey. I am a competitive flyfisherman in Colorado. I was wondering if your company could do a non-monetary based sponsorship with me. This means that I wouldn’t ask for anything other than gear. In return, I will review your product on my blog, feature the gear in action in my weekly videos, and of course represent your company in competitions. Please let me know if we could work something out. Jonathan: Thanks for checking in with us. So, do you compete in casting competitions or actual fly fishing competitions? We would like to help you with some gear but I would like to learn more about your competitions etc and about you. This sounds pretty cool. Austin: I compete in the actual fly fishing competitions. I’ve had a rod in my hand non-stop for about 8 years and have become quite addicted with at least 200 days on the water a year. Though I’m fairly new to the whole competition gig but have a lot of experience in the sport. My teammate, Andrew Medina, has competition experience and is also a runner up for the team USA youth fly fishing team. If you have any specific questions you want to know just let me know! Thanks and have a great day, Austin. More from Austin: I know both of these competitions will be held even though specific dates arent released yet because they are annual: www.carpslam.org and http://conejosriveranglers.com/Conejos_River_Annual_Superfly.php Those are the two biggest competitions I will be competing in. Carp Slam is Denver TUs way to raise money for the South Platte restoration and gets a…

We welcome you to our new commerce site and hope that it serves you well. For those of you that are new to our product and our site, Solitude Reels has recently announced a new and improved drag system to be show cased in the SR4 and SR5 reels for 2011. The new drag system includes; over sized drag discs, a new proprietary cork composite material, and a custom designed spring. This drag system offers the smoothness and minimal break away friction of the original drag system but with significantly more power in order to handle large salt water species. Our goal was to design a drag system that would offer the angler the ability to meet the challenges of vastly different angling situations, from swimming a summer steelhead with light tippet in heavy flow to inshore fishing for over sized bull reds. We feel the goal has been achieved and are excited about getting these reels into the hands of anglers. We would also like to express our deep sadness regarding the loss of a dear and special friend. The passing of Jack Charlton took all of us by surprise and our thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his wonderful wife Judy. Jack’s generosity and the standards he lived by were an inspiration to all of us. Solitude Reels will be attending the following shows in 2012. If you attend, please come by our booth and check out the new drag, or contact us directly if you have any questions. Upcoming Events The Fly Fishing Show Garden State Convention Center Somerset, NJ.
