Fly Reels Reviews – SR4 SR2

Solitude Fly Reels Reviews by Jeroen Schoondergang Jeroen sent us these incredible photos along with the following fly reels reviews for the SR4 and SR2… We spent a week in Bodø in Northern Norway, just above the Arctic circle. Last year we fished there two weeks earlier, and we had a ball sight casting at cod, feeding heavily on crabs in the shallows. This years the cod had already started schooling for their trek to deeper water. They were still aggressively feeding and certainly the dominant predator. With the help of a small fishfinder/gps, a Lowrance Elite4, we tracked down drop-offs, reefs and plateaus which we fished with fast sinking shooting heads (11 to 18 grains per foot) and sinking running lines. The SR4 fly reel was perfect for this. The reel is solid and gets the job done. I was fishing 4 and 7 weights, which is extremely light for this type of fishing. It does however give me an edge in fishing speed and with the right equipment you can give the fish some serious stick, even on this gear. The SR4 is an essential part of the outfit. It performs perfectly with no startup inertia at all, which is crucial with the very light rods we used. I used the SR2 in combination with my 4weight and an intermediate line to fish for coalfish in the shallows. Like its bigger brother it performed admirably. My Solitudes have become steady travel companions.

Solitude Fly Reels Testimonial from Bruce Robbins of New South Wales, Australia

I purchased a Solitude 4 fly reel with the Standard Spool from Derek McKenzie Fly Fishing in Australia just before leaving on my third trip to Christmas Island.  When the fly reel arrived it just looked and felt like quality.  I was impressed too with the large capstan on the reel as it felt good in my hand, the fit and finish were excellent and even though I have owned a number of top brand fly reels the Solitude now had my attention. I was able to get just on 400 yards of 30lb. GSP backing on my new reel along with a 105ft. fly line with a bit of room to spare so was very confident that even if I hooked into a bigger fish I had the right gear for the job.  The reel performed flawlessly and I took over 70 bone fish on my trip along with a number of decent trigger fish and one very nice sized milkfish too. Perhaps the most impressive of all was something that happened by accident, I was about to land a nice bone fish when at only about a yard away from me a GT of about 40 pounds came screaming in and took the bone fish in one swallow and headed for the reef!  This fish took the backing down in a hurry and whilst only a guess would have run about 250 yards or so non-stop.  What I noticed was the constant and even drag pressure that the Solitude reel had through the length of the run and even more so as I gradually increased the drag pressure to slow the fish down a bit.  I had this fish on for just over 30 minutes gaining ground and loosing some back and was able to get to a boat to…
